Take a close look at the film footage of the Apollo missions.
What do you see?
– Astronauts, playing.
For a short moment in everyday life, Luis Carr creates his own universe, fusing mime, slow motion dance, improvisation, theatre and magic.
In this unique act, THE ASTRONAUT, an interactive performance for both theatre and street, he visually plays with time, space, and gravity in front of a live audience in an amusing way never seen before.
There is a scene in Stanley Kubricks film "2001", where a pen slowly floats across the screen.
Fascinated by this scene and the distinct aesthetics of the Apollo missions, Luis Carr developed a way to create such images on earth.
Moving in slow motion live in front of your eyes creates the wonderful illusion of distorting space and time.
Inspired by hip-hop and contempory dance, Luis Carr learned the art of slow motion from the renowned dancer Slow Motion Phax.
