Take a close look at the film footage of the Apollo missions.
What do you see?
– Astronauts, playing.
For a short moment in everyday life, Luis Carr creates his own universe, fusing mime, slow motion dance, improvisation, theatre and magic.
In this unique act, THE ASTRONAUT, an interactive one-man show created for both street and theatre, he visually plays with time, space, and gravity in front of a live audience in an amusing way never seen before.
There is a scene in Stanley Kubricks film "2001", where a pen slowly floats across the screen.
Fascinated by this, and the distinct aesthetics of the Apollo missions, Luis Carr developed a way to create such an image on earth.
Moving in slow motion live in front of your eyes creates the wonderful illusion of distorting space and time.
Inspired by hip-hop and contempory dance, Luis Carr learned the art of slow motion from the renowned Swedish dancer Slow Motion Phax.
